Final Post

I think the factors that have lead to the success of Tangled is because of the film studio that it has come from, the characters themselves and also because of how well known the story of Rapunzel actually is. As the studio Disney has become something of a household name around the world many people would want to see it because of the high standard that Disney have made in the past which could bring back nostalgia. The characters that are presented in the film are daring, adventurous and also quite funny and with having animals with attitude in the trailer it could make children want to see it for the animals. Finally the story of Rapunzel is a famous fairy tale which could help the story do well many people of all ages would’ve probably heard of the story and would want to see what Disney had done to the story.

I also think that the critical success that has also come with the film has helped it as it mostly got 4 stars from most critics except from the guardian which gave it 2 stars. Famous film magazines such as Total Film and Empire magazine gave the film 4 stars so readers of the magazines may want to see the film as these two prestigious magazines have said that it was worth the money. However the guardian gave the film only two stars saying that it was boring and predictable. Another review I saw for the film was Closer Magazine, normally when looking through it the reviews for the films only have 2/3 stars so the film gaining 4 stars is quite an achievment in some aspects as it has done significantly well in comparison to other film reviews in that magazine.

The film was nominated for quite a few awards these included the Oscars and The Golden Globes. The film was nominated for best song, this was for the song I see the light performed by the singer/actress Many Moore. However despite being nominated the film did not win anything and lost to another Disney film in the catagory which was Toy Story 3.

Tangled Box Office Analysis

Tangled overall has done very well in the UK box office. In the films opening weekend Tangled knocked The Kings Speech off the number one spot in the UK box office from it’s reign. For the next two weeks the film stayed at the number one spot until Paul came out and knocked it down to number 7. During the half term Tangled climbed up again and came to number 5 which is quite good after dropping six places the week before.

In the opening weekend the film brought in £5,106,612 and the weekend after opening £4,569,135. As said before so far the film hasn’t come out of the top 10 since being released in the UK and has been helped by the half term holidays.

Tangled- My opinion

After seeing Tangled in the past week, I was very pleased with the outcome of the last Disney Princess film in the foreseeable future. Before seeing the film I didn’t really want to see any reviews incase this clouded my judgement, however seeing the reviews I did see varied in how good they believed the film to be.

When waiting for the film to begin I was quite surprised to see how many adults were there without children, which made me and my friends feel less stupid for going to see a ‘childs’ film.

Overall I thought this film was very funny with a twist ending that hasn’t really been seen before in other Disney princess films which I thought made the film refreshing from the usual happily ever after.

However as this film was meant to be a musical like many other disney princess films and had Alan Menken who has written songs for Disney classsic’s such as Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. I thought that these songs weren’t as great as the songs that are featured in these two songs, I can’t even remember what any of them are called whereas with Beauty And The Beast and Aladdin I can sing along word perfect without watching the film for years.
